The latest figures: Southeast Asia’s platform e-commerce reached $157.6 billion in GMV in 2025, up 22.8% (Momentum Works). Shopee holds around 53% of the market; TikTok Shop’s platform GMV doubled to $45.6 billion. TikTok Shop’s Southeast Asian platform GMV doubled to $45.6 billion in 2025 — roughly tenfold growth in three years (Momentum Works via DealStreetAsia). Southeast Asia is now 71% of TikTok Shop’s $64.3 billion global GMV. Indonesia is its largest regional market at $13.1 billion, its second-biggest in the world after the United States.

One figure to read carefully: the $45.6 billion is TikTok Shop’s platform GMV. Counted together with Tokopedia — the Indonesian marketplace TikTok took control of in December 2023 — the combined entity reached about 65.7% of Shopee’s regional GMV in 2025. These are two different measures and shouldn’t be averaged.

Shopee, owned by Singapore-listed Sea Limited, held roughly 53% of Southeast Asian platform GMV in 2025 and ranked number one in all six major markets (Momentum Works). On Sea’s own global reporting — which includes Taiwan and Brazil — Shopee’s GMV reached $127 billion, up 27%, on 13.9 billion orders. In the most recent quarter (Q1 2026), Shopee GMV grew 30.2% to $37.3 billion, and Sea guides to around 25% Shopee GMV growth for full-year 2026.

The market has consolidated into a near-pure three-horse race. Shopee, TikTok Shop (with Tokopedia) and Lazada together took 98.8% of all platform GMV in 2025, up from 84% a year earlier. Indonesia remains the centre of gravity at around 37% of regional GMV, even as its growth slowed. (Momentum Works restated Indonesia’s share down from 44% in its 2024 report, reflecting the Tokopedia rationalisation and Bukalapak’s marketplace exit.)

A note on the “Shopee buying Lazada” rumour

For the record, since it drives recurring searches: there is no Shopee/Lazada acquisition, and no credible evidence of one. Shopee and Lazada are direct rivals owned by Sea and Alibaba respectively. The only real corporate-action story is Alibaba’s on-and-off plan to eventually spin off or IPO Lazada — a fundraise it halted in 2025. And Temu, despite a high-profile push, is not a material Southeast Asian player: it was banned in Indonesia (October 2024) and suspended in Vietnam (December 2024), and sits outside the 98.8% top-three.
